frequently asked questions
I have a great idea for a product. Will you design
it for me?
We are not product designers. We specialize in turning your designs into tangible, high quality prototypes. While the prototyping process may influence a design, we rely on your well communicated design vision in order for us to begin and complete our process.
Please refer to our Connections + Contacts section below for links to trusted industrial designers and consultancies if you need design help prior to requesting our services.
i have my design ready to be prototyped, but do not have the materials or tools needed. Can acme studio still help build my design?
Yes, Acme Studio has all the tools and machines on site in order to prototype quickly and at a high level of quality. We also have a materials library at our studio with vast vendor relationships to source the best materials for your project. In some cases when a method of prototyping we do not offer is necessary as part of our building process, we can help coordinate those efforts in order to deliver your prototype.
what should i have prepared PRIOR TO requestING THE SERVICES OF ACME STUDIO?
what can I do to help the prototyping process?
At Acme Studio we value clear communication, both verbal and visual. You should be prepared with a clear vision of your design and be able to talk through the details with us. In addition, sketches outlining your design, how it works/moves with detail callouts and material finishes is how we prefer to document what your product prototype expectations are, so we can meet those expectations. These sketches do not have to be perfect, but they do need to concisely convey your design. The LINK Smart Collar project displays an example of the type of sketches we are looking for, also take a look through our Process page for more examples.
CAN ACME STUDIO PROTOTYPE MY DESIGN IF IT INVOLVES BOTH SOFT GOODS AND HARD GOODS?
Acme Studio is so much more than a cut-and-sew shop. Although textiles tends to be our primary material, we work with many different types of mediums including leather, plastics, metal, wood and much more. In addition to a full soft goods shop, we have all of your basic machine shop equipment or have the connections to a specialist who can assist with the project. During the initial project consultation we will be able to better understand what your needs are and provide guidance.
